Maintenance and Repairs

Maintenance and Repairs

The life of a borehole will be limited unless it is constructed in a manner
which permits both, high initial efficiency and the possibility of periodical redevelopment, and only if it is pumped at the proper design rate. With the use of appropriate materials and with careful maintenance, a borehole may be productive for 20 years or more.

When is Maintenance/Repair Required?

Boreholes may decline as a response to:

  • Lowering of water table levels;
  • Inefficient pump operation caused by worn, corroded or plugged parts; ill) Deposits of scale, corrosion products or micro-organism growth on the screens and casing;
  • Clogging of the screens by mud, silt or sand.

Borehole maintenance and rehabilitation actions help in recovering lost production if the decline is due to any of the last three causes. Repair and maintenance work can be accomplished at opportune times and complete breakdowns avoided. Most groundwaters are only mildly corrosive, if at all; corrosion may be offset by using protective coatings or corrosion-resistant materials for the screens and casing.

Borehole Assesment

This is a critical process we use to evaluate the condition and performance of a borehole once the client notes that the system is not functioning as it should.

During the process we inspect the borehole for signs of deterioration or damage by assessing pump performance and its associated components. This can be done using the Borehole Camera Inspection Service. We also use visual inspection to check for signs of leaks, corrosion, or improper sealing. Borehole assessments guide us in diagnosing faults within the water supply system and we then provide actionable recommendations for maintenance, repairs, or improvements.

Borehole Pump Fishing

We offer pump fishing services to retrieve borehole pumps that have become stuck or lost in boreholes using specialized equipment that grip the pump from the outside to pull it out.

Borehole Flushing

This is a process we use to clean and maintain boreholes by removing debris, sediments, and contaminants. This practice is essential for ensuring optimal water flow, preventing pump damage, and maintaining water quality. The client has to provide information on the history of the borehole then we can recommend the suitable type of borehole flushing.

Borehole Re-Casing

In this process, we reinforce the casing of a borehole as a way of restoring its structural integrity by replacing the damaged with a lesser diameter than the existing one
